The women’s volleyball team of the Faculty of Engineering managed to wriggle its way to the third spot with a 25-16, 19-25, 25-11, 25-14 victory in a best-of-three game over the College of Fine Arts and Design (CFAD) in the Thomasian Goodwill Games, held on September 30, 2012.
The team, composed of 14 members: Â team captain Kimberly Obcena, Kamil Jansen Sales, Karen Ray Isaguirre, Anna Elica, Hazelle Joyce Viernes, libero Joyce Ong, Samantha Jann Chanco, Princess Bravo, Marie Joy Yamauchi, Reina Adora Lupac, Kyle Jan Gallardo, Rizzia Abrantes, and Georgette Sol Dacer, recovered from a disastrous 2nd set with Alsola, Viernes and Lupac powering Engineering team through the rest of the game at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
Headed by their coach, Kris Dimaculangan, the first six players were Alsola, Ong, Obcena, Elica, Chanco, and Sales. During the 1st set, Alsola spiked the ball to Ong of CFAD, unable to receive it. Halfway through the end, Chanco gave a kill at the empty left side of CFADâ€™s back court. During the set point, Sales’ service hit the tip of the net, ending the 1st set.
Things didn’t go well in the 2nd set. Chanco dived for the ball which Viernes failed to block after an attack by CFAD Spiker, Ong. Chanco suffered minor right arm injury. Chua of CFAD ended the set by an ace, unable to receive by the Eng’g libero, Ong.
The 3rd and final set was flawlessly played. Sales dug for the ball, but was spiked by CFAD outside the Eng’g court. Both sets ended with a kill shot of Alsola and Lupac, respectively.
